Capital Appeal Progress

Main House after exterior works

The Meath Capital Appeal Nearing Completion

Back in summer 2023 we launched our 1.1m Capital Appeal to enable us to future proof The Meath for the people we support.

Works completed have improved the comfort, safety and accessibility of our main building with works undertaken spanning replacement/update of:

  • Flat Roof above Bradbury Wing and repair to pitched roof above The Hive
  • Replaced or refurbished 90 windows
  • 2 new disability doors
  • Stonework repaired and entire main building painted
  • Latest fire system installed throughout The Meath

Our New Carer On Call System

The on-going upgrade of our Carer on Call system is well underway, with works in the main house nearing completion and the upgrade to systems due to soon commence at our annex buildings.

This system is integral to enabling us to reduce the risks associated with supporting people who have complex epilepsy and complex healthcare needs. The emergency on-call system ensures that at all times the people we support and our staff are able to summon assistance when required. The new system will provide the reliability and rapid response needed to ensure we can act swiftly in urgent situations.

Air Conditioning For Priority Areas

Heat and the associated tiredness which occurs during the hotter months, are proven seizure triggers for many of the people we support and indeed the wider population of people living with epilepsy.

Air conditioning installed in priority areas will make a hugely positive difference to the wellbeing and comfort of so many of the vulnerable adults we support.

We are delighted that we are now finalising the planning of the installation of air conditioning to the hottest parts of our main building which will be completed by the summer.

New Woodland Trail Opening soon!

While the progress of the latter stages of our Capital Appeal have been unseen, the building of our accessible woodland trail underway is attracting lots of attention already!

The Woodland Trail will feature birch trees and a fully accessible pathway which meanders through sensory planting and leads to an outdoor learning area. It will also feature a bespoke bench and display of outdoor artworks, created by the people we support.

We look forward to the Woodland Trail being completed in the springtime as it will enable the people we support to maximise the opportunity to enjoy their beautiful natural surroundings, both for quiet visits alone/with Support Workers or as part of Skills Centre outdoor learning sessions.

Together, the phases of our Capital Appeal have enabled us to ensure that our beautiful home is well preserved and maintained for future generations, is made as accessible, safe and comfortable as possible for the people we support. The Meath has a long history of supporting adults with epilepsy and we are extremely grateful to all those who have supported the appeal, which will enable us to continue providing a very special, safe and comfortable home for the people we support over many years to come.

Thank you for your support!
