The Meath Capital Appeal Nearing Completion

In  summer 2023 we launched our £1.1m Capital Appeal to enable us to future-proof The Meath for the people we support.

We are thrilled to have completed the listed works below!  This progress is improving the comfort, safety and accessibility of our main building and will do over years to come:

  • Flat Roof above Bradbury Wing and repair to pitched roof above The Hive
  • Replaced or refurbished 90 windows
  • 2 new disability doors
  • Stonework repaired and entire main building painted
  • Latest fire system installed throughout The Meath
  • New Woodland Walkway

Our New Carer On Call System

We’ve nearly completed the upgrade of our Emergency On-Call system!

A young main wearing glasses is awake, partly sitting up in a bed. Next him is a red emergency pull chord on the wall and attending his bedside is a woman with dark hair.

Emergency call points mean that Support Staff can respond swiftly and give the people we support peace of mind.

This system is integral to enabling us to reduce the risks associated with supporting people who have complex epilepsy and complex healthcare needs. Thanks to the emergency on-call system, we can  ensure that at all times, the people we support and staff can summon assistance when required. The new system will provide the reliability and rapid response needed to ensure we can act swiftly in urgent situations.

Our upgraded emergency on-call system helps us to safeguard against the risks associated with complex epilepsy, this includes reducing the risk to life cased by SUDEP (sudden unexplained death in epilepsy).

Air Conditioning For Priority Areas

Heat and the associated tiredness which occurs during the hotter months, are proven seizure triggers for many of the people we support and the wider population of people living with epilepsy.

A large Georgian white manor house is pictured form a low angle on a summer's day. In the foreground is a large lawn, slightly yellowed from the peak summer sun and the sky is blue with some white clouds.

The main house after initial phases of the appeal enabled repair to roof, stonework, windows and a fresh coat of paint.

Air conditioning installed in priority areas will make a hugely positive difference to the wellbeing and comfort of so many of the vulnerable adults we support.

We are delighted that we are now finalising the planning of the installation of air conditioning to the hottest parts of our main building which will be completed by the summer.

New Woodland Walkway Open!

A group of men and women are stood on a woodland path and smiling the camera. A young man is giving a thumbs up to the camera. Around them are yellow daffodils.

All smiles in the springtime sunshine!

Our new Woodland Walkway features birch trees and a fully accessible pathway, which meanders through sensory planting and leads to an outdoor learning area. It also features a changing display of outdoor artworks, created by the people we support. With over 5,000 bulbs planted, we just love watching it spring into action!

Lots of the people we support are making good use of the area and are enjoying the peace and tranquility of their beautiful natural surroundings.

As well as being a wonderful area to enjoy at any time for quiet reflection or a catch-up with a friend, the area is also well used by Skills Centre Walking Group and Nature Group.

Together, the phases of our Capital Appeal have enabled us to ensure that our beautiful home is well preserved and maintained for future generations. Moreover, our home and site is made as accessible, safe and comfortable as possible for the people we support. The Meath has a long history of supporting adults with epilepsy and we are extremely grateful to all those who have supported the appeal. Thanks to the generosity of all those who have supported our Capital Appeal we can continue providing a very special, safe and comfortable home for the people we support over many years to come.

Thank you for your support!
